PURCHASING YOUR OWN ICE SKATES

When trying on a pair of skates, make sure they fit snugly and are not too tight or loose. It's important that your ankles are well-supported during any skating session. If your skates are too stiff or even too flexible you could be in real danger of turning your ankle and causing damage to your feet.

In the ice skating world, the quality of your ice skate is essential. A decent skate can be pricey but having the support of a quality skate is necessary to keep your skater safe. Please do not buy ice skates from Amazon, Model's or Dick's. Ice skates that resemble a ski boot or are expandable ice skates are not sufficient for a learn to skate class. Buy from a specialist store and seek expert advice wherever possible.

We recommend visiting Skate Pro located inside the Pavilion, 3080 Arthur Kill Road

To have the best experience when purchasing your ice skates, make a fitting appointment via phone (540) 520 - 8160  or email them at Skatepronyc@gmail.com

A professional coach or Skate Pro will recommend that you get a higher or lower level boot depending on your height and weight. A new skate fitting appointment typically takes an hour and 30 minutes. Beginner skates will cost between $100 - $200 depending on the strength of the skate needed.

Prior to registering, visit our First Day of Class page  & Ice Skate FAQ for more information on what to expect during class, what equipment is needed, and what to look for when purchasing new ice skates.
